Every month Role Call Prep shares dance career tips and industry advice to help advance young artist’s skills. This month we talk about networking and interview tips.
Interview and networking skills are important in all aspects of life, not just when applying to a college dance program. Here are 3 tips to keep you on top of your game, so that you can shine and feel confident:
You’ve likely heard this one before, but it’s an important one.
Making eye contact shows you are present, interested, and involved in the conversation at hand.
It doesn’t mean you can’t ever look elsewhere (don’t be creepy)! But, make sure you look the other person in the eyes throughout the conversation so they know you are involved and attentive.
Interviewing and networking is as much about you getting to know someone or something, as it is about them getting to know you.
If you don’t understand something, ask for clarification. If you have questions about a program or piece of information they’ve shared, speak up.
People appreciate honesty and curiosity...and if they don’t, then you don’t want to be around that anyway!
People like to see how you articulate your interests and opinions.
Ahead of an interview always do research about the company or program you’re talking to. While networking, remember to engage and actively listen.
And always, speak from your heart.
