Description of Program: Peabody Conservatory prepares students to be at the forefront of dance innovation through performance, choreographic and critical historical and theoretical exploration. The BFA Dance program has a focus in modern dance, with classes in choreography, dance film studies, somatic approaches to movement, and multiple dance disciplines (Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Tap, West-African, among others). Students have opportunities to collaborate and perform pieces by major guest artists, work with fellow dancers and music students at Peabody, and perform in a preprofessional student dance company. Our affiliation with Johns Hopkins University allows dancers the opportunity to cross-register for classes, pursue a directed studies minor, or apply for the Peabody/Johns Hopkins University Double Degree Program.

Alumni Connections and Careers

Peabody graduates can pursue careers as performers, choreographers, teachers, researchers, arts administrators, and community organizers. Recent graduates have joined professional dance companies, studied dance at major summer festivals, were granted dance internships, pursued higher degree studies with opportunities to teach and choreograph, were selected for international choreography festivals, among other things.
